Chiropractors use five common techniques for back and neck pain. Proctor Chiropractic in Tacoma is no different. Our experienced chiropractors use these techniques every day to help you feel your best.

Gonstead Technique

The Gonstead Technique targets specific areas along your spine. It may also be used in your lower back and pelvic area. This is called a “hands-on” technique, as your chiropractor will adjust your problem area by manipulating the bones in these areas with his or hands. Your chiropractor will find the area causing you pain by physical exam, x-ray or CT scan.

Soft Tissue Therapy

The soft tissue therapy works on your muscles and ligaments surrounding your joints. This will help loosen up the muscles, which will help to clear up scar tissue that may have developed from injuries, inflammation, and irritation. Soft tissue therapy is done by massage.

Graston Technique

The Graston Technique works on your soft tissues with the use of specially-designed metal instruments. The instrument is run across your muscles and ligament to loosen up any scar tissue that has developed in those areas.

Flexion Distraction

Flexion Distraction is done with the use of a specialized table that will gently stretch your spine. This will help adjust the discs in your spine, treats disc herniation, and can help to increase your mobility.

Thompson Technique

The Thompson Technique is done on a specialized table that will drop as your chiropractor makes sudden adjustments. The drop is measured out in fractions of an inch. As the chiropractor does his adjustment, the table drops. You will feel it as a vibration when it’s done. This technique benefits you by relieving areas of discomfort in your extremities or spinal area.

How Your Chiropractor Decides Which Technique to Use

Once your chiropractor has done a thorough exam, he will discuss his findings with you to decide on the best treatment for you. These five common techniques are specifically designed to help you recover from any back pain and neck pain you may be having.
