Sitting at a desk for hours on end can be very hard on your body! Discomfort during the day can lead to lower productivity levels due to distraction. How are you treating your body at work?

By practicing good ergonomics and visiting your Tacoma chiropractor, you can improve your comfort level and day-to-day experiences. Most patients don’t realize what their office job is doing to their back, neck and shoulders. Poor posture and office furniture can cause muscle pain, stiff joints and headaches.

What are Good Workplace Ergonomics?

There is a science to workplace demands and physical employee capabilities called ergonomics. Ergonomic principles are used to consider whether or not the workplace is compatible to the employee in order to protect the employee and boost productivity. Good ergonomics will keep the joints in their neutral position when possible and avoid muscle stress or fatigue.

Better Office Ergonomics

When possible, we encourage all of our patients to choose desks that are the proper height, placing everything within easy reach. Your chair should be adjustable so your feet are flat on the floor. To keep your back from becoming stressed with poor posture, practice sitting straight with your head and neck upright and facing forward. Hunching, slouching or looking downward for long periods of time can be very strenuous for the lower back, shoulder and neck. Those who talk frequently on the phone (especially for long periods of time) should use a headset to avoid keeping the neck bent at an odd angle.

Visiting the Chiropractor

Even when you are practicing good ergonomics in the office, we can still offer therapies to keep you relaxed and focused on overall wellbeing. Dr. Keogh uses a variety of therapy techniques and combinations, including massage therapy, chiropractic adjustment, cold laser therapy, nutritional counseling, physical therapy and more.

By allowing your body to remain relaxed, its natural ability to heal is boosted. You will feel better and get more done when your body is at its best.
